The Baumalight GXM550 is a compact, high-efficiency excavator stump grinder engineered for operators who need commercial-grade power and precision within the 3.5–8 ton excavator class. Built around a high-torque bent-axis piston motor, the GXM550 transforms hydraulic flow into strong, responsive cutting force—giving small and mid-sized excavators the ability to remove dense hardwood stumps, root clusters, and soil-bound material with surprising speed and consistency.

The GXM550 runs on 8–40 GPM, enabling strong performance across a wide hydraulic range and making it compatible with many utility and mid-size excavators. The cutting system features 12 round carbide teeth, arranged in clustered groups of three for balanced cutting and smoother chip progression. Each tooth can be rotated up to three times to expose a fresh cutting edge, dramatically extending service life and reducing field maintenance.

The concave carbide geometry allows the grinder to “chip forward” through material rather than pulverize it, resulting in faster production and reduced rotor strain.

The core of the attachment is a robust 24" solid steel rotor, built from a 1.25" thick plate designed to withstand high shock loads without flexing. This heavy rotor mass provides the essential momentum needed to power through large hardwood stumps and maintain consistent cutting performance even when hydraulic flow fluctuates.

A large blast shield with dual rows of safety chain curtains offers excellent debris containment, improving operator visibility and site safety during aggressive grinding.

In real-world operation, the GXM550 delivers notable productivity. With a motor spec equivalent to the X510 operating at 3,000 PSI, the GXM550 can cut a 24" stump in around 25 minutes at 12 GPM. With the same motor at 4,000 PSI, that time reduces to 20 minutes. Increasing flow toward 15 GPM yields faster cycle times still—allowing operators to fully leverage their excavator’s hydraulic capacity.
